COMING SOON
We are really excited to bring Axes and O’s to Northern Virginia! The sport of axe throwing is a safe, fun and exciting way to spend time with family and friends. Our space is approximately 8,700 square feet and will have 8 throwing lanes, great for hosting anything from date night to large corporate events. We will have a 500+ square foot meeting room, perfect for networking events or private parties. Have your birthday party, bachelor/ette party or corporate team building event with us! We will be offering delicious food, drinks, games and music to help make the experience even more enjoyable. We have ties to the community going back over 40 years and know you are hungry for something new and exciting to do. We are working very hard to get everything ready and should be open in the next few months. Keep checking back here for updates and info on our grand opening date!
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Axe throwing has quickly gained popularity in the USA since 2015, and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. Individuals take turns throwing a 1-2 lb short-handled axe at a wooden target that is 12 feet away. The closer the axe lands to the center of the target, the more points you score. A short game is 5 throws and a regulation game is 10 throws. The highest score wins.
Yes, we have axe coaches on site who will show you how to throw an axe. Warning: it’s addictive!
Absolutely! Your safety is our priority and you will be given safety instructions prior to throwing. We will have lane coaches assigned to your group to ensure proper technique is followed.
Yes, as long as the axe meets World Axe Throwing League regulations:
- The axe head must weigh between 1 and 1.75 lbs.
- The blade on the head should be between 4.25 inches and 4.75 inches long.
- The handle may be made of wood, steel or plastic and the length must be at least 12 inches long. The length includes the top head of the axe where the wood is inserted, to the bottom of the shaft.
**At this time, no long-handled axes are allowed.
Yes, however everyone must sign a waiver and we need to limit spectators to no more than 2 people per reservation. Spectators are not allowed in the throwing lanes at any time, but seating behind the lanes will be available.
The cost is $35/person for a 90-minute session. This session includes safety instruction, waiver signing and lots of fun!
We sure do! And we highly recommend you click on our reservations tab to reserve your session online. To reserve a private lane, a group size of 6 or more is required. Please note that group sizes less than 6 may be paired up with other throwers.
We will do our best to accommodate walk ins based on availability. Walk in sessions will be booked for the next available time slot. If your group size is less than 6, you may be paired up with other throwers.
We require at least 48 hours notice in order to refund your deposit. If less than 48 hours, we will help you reschedule your session.
It’s crucial for everyone to be given ample safety instruction prior to throwing, so showing up on time is very important! If you’re more than 15 minutes late, we will need to reschedule your throwing session to another time so that other members of your group are able to enjoy the full experience without interruption.
You must wear closed-toed shoes, no exceptions. Other than that, we recommend you wear something comfortable and unrestrictive.
Wednesday through Saturday you must be 18 and up to enter. On Sundays we are open to everyone 14 and up. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian present at all times.
Yes, we have delicious items on our menu along with sodas, tea, lemonade and sparkling water.
No outside food or drinks allowed. However, if you are celebrating a special occasion (like a birthday), we allow a cake or cupcakes to be brought in. Just be sure to share a piece with us. We love cake!
We are in the process of applying for our ABC license and plan to have a selection of premium draft beer and a variety of local beer as well. We also plan to offer a selection of wines, cider and spiked seltzers. We will update our website once this is finalized.
We understand that people are worried that alcohol and axes maybe aren’t the best mix. Look at it this way – when you go bowling, you grab a beer or two, right? This is the same idea. We have taken many steps to ensure you remain safe. There will be a limit of 2 drinks maximum per session. We will not allow anyone that is intoxicated to throw an axe.
We love them! What a better way to celebrate a birthday, bachelor or bachelorette party than getting some good food, good drinks and throwing axes? We’ll join in the fun by giving the birthday boy/girl or bride/groom-to-be a free t-shirt! Just remember that a group size of 6 or more is required to reserve a private lane.
Of course we do! We have almost 9,000 square feet to accommodate large groups. Be the office hero and set up your next team building event at Axes and O’s. Please click on our Corporate Events tab for more information.
